Start the tour with pickup from your accommodation in the city, and head to Karunguru Coffee Farm, located just an hour drive outside of Nairobi. Coffee was introduced to Kenya in 1893 and the first crop of Karunguru Coffee was planted in 1928 by a British family known as the Glassfords before Kenya received its independence from the British government. It is evident therefore, that as far back as 1928, the history of coffee growing has been an integral part of the Karunguru heritage.
Explore the farm on a short welcome tour, and learn about the history of the farm and the process of growing, harvesting and making coffee. Visit the various sites around the farm, which are synonymous with the coffee process from the young seedling to water processing, drying and hurling of coffee.
After the tour, sit outside in the lush gardens and enjoy a coffee tasting experience. Taste a selection of different grades, types, and varieties of coffee, paired with tasty pastries to fill you up, and dine on a buffet lunch. Before you leave, visit the farm shop and purchase an array of items to take home, including coffee, jam, and honey.
