描述

"The Day of the Dead is an ancestral tradition that frames the cosmovision of life and death, the spirituality of the indigenous peoples and the gastronomy of our country.
This celebration originated in the Mexica culture, who had a very special interpretation of death. They believed in Mictlán, the "place of the dead," a kind of underworld where most of the deceased would go. This ceremony began after the harvest season, between September and November, and after the conquest, the Catholic religion merged this celebration with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
Currently, this tradition is celebrated from October 28 to November 2. During these days, Oaxacan families remember their deceased loved ones with a very unique celebration according to the idiosyncrasies of each town. The first two days of November are the busiest, even considered holidays due to their great cultural significance in Mexico.

Bahías Plus invites you to experience the Day of the Dead celebration in Huatulco. We will begin the tour from your hotel, where we will welcome you with a flower offering as you board our transportation. We will depart for Santa María Huatulco, and during the trip, your tour guide will explain the importance of this celebration for the Zapotec people and their ancestors.

We will walk along two of the main streets of the town while learning about the most important cultural aspects and enjoying the unique landscape, including skies decorated with papel picado, facades with catrinas, flower arches, and tapetes, until we reach the municipal cemetery, where a party and excitement await us. We will immerse ourselves in the extraordinary mixture of aromas, including flowers, fruit, and copal, which make the rooms shine. We will have the opportunity to listen to serenades that family and friends sing to their deceased loved ones and witness this long-awaited gathering. We will board the transport and visit the home of our host, a family on the outskirts of town who will show us the offerings on their traditional Day of the Dead altar. We will be welcomed with a tasting of creams and mezcal. We will sample iconic delicacies of Oaxacan cuisine such as chocolate de agua, pan de yema, and mole negro. We will visit the altar, where the tour guide will explain each of its elements and the meaning of its structure. Finally, we will go to the dining room to enjoy a dinner of traditional Oaxacan tamales, an important part of the feast for our deceased loved ones during this time of year.
