The Mardi Himal trek is Nepal's best-kept secret in the Annapurna region. While the popular Annapurna Base Camp trail draws crowds, this quiet ridge trail remains uncrowded and breathtaking. Opened as an official trekking route only in recent years, it follows a steep forested ridge directly toward the base of the sacred Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain, passing through Gurung villages and alpine meadows before reaching 4,500m.
From Kathmandu, you drive to Pokhara and then to Kande trailhead. The route ascends through dense rhododendron and oak forest to Forest Camp, then climbs steeply to High Camp (3,580m) — a tiny cluster of lodges perched on a grassy shelf with jaw-dropping Annapurna views. The summit push takes you to Mardi Himal Base Camp where Machhapuchhre's south face fills the entire sky. Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna I tower all around you. The descent follows a circular route through Siding and Lumre, passing Gurung villages and terraced farmland — you never retrace your steps. All permits (ACAP and TIMS) are included, and every booking supports education for 70 children in rural Nepal through the Nagarjun Learning Center.
