Day 1: Depart from Kigali to Nyanza Royal Palace - Nyungwe National Park
Start your day early to make the most of your time at the palace. The drive from Kigali to Nyanza takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and the route.

After arriving in Nyanza, head straight to the Nyanza Royal Palace Museum. As you enter, you'll likely be greeted by a guide or museum staff who will lead you through the site and provide background information about Rwanda’s monarchy and the palace’s significance.

A guided tour of the palace will take you through the history of the Rwandan monarchy and introduce you to the traditional royal structures. See the King’s Throne Room, traditional royal houses, and cultural exhibits.

Hear about the symbolic significance of the Royal Court Drum (Inanga) in Rwandan culture. Your guide will share insights into the life of King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, the last Mwami of Rwanda, and provide stories of the royal family's influence in the country’s history.

Depart Nyanza and proceed to Nyungwe National Park. Enjoy the scenic route through Rwanda’s lush countryside, with stops for photos arriving early evening.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Start early with breakfast and proceed for chimpanzee trekking (treks begin as early as 5:30 AM). Trek through the dense forest with guides to track chimpanzees and observe their fascinating behavior. The experience usually lasts 2-4 hours.

Return to your lodge for lunch after the trek. In the afternoon head out to the park reception for the Canopy Walk, one of Nyungwe's highlights. Walk 70 meters above the forest floor on a suspension bridge and take in breathtaking views of the rainforest.

Day 3: Gisakura Tea Plantation tour and departure
Start the day early and head out straight to the Gisakura Tea Plantation, which is located just outside the park’s southern edge. A tour of the plantation allows visitors to learn about the cultivation, processing, and importance of tea in Rwanda’s economy and culture.

Enjoy a guided walk through the lush, green tea fields, which stretch across rolling hills. The picturesque landscape provides great photo opportunities with views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The guide will explain the tea-growing process, including the different types of tea grown in the region, such as black tea, and the stages of growth, from planting to harvesting. The plantation tour usually includes a visit to the tea processing facility, where you can observe how the freshly harvested tea leaves are processed into tea. This includes the stages of withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and packaging.
