From Colombo: Sigiriya Rock, Village Tour and Dambulla Trip

5.30AM pick up from your hotel in Colombo or Negombo

Heading to Dambulla. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the caves, which were the refuge of King Walagamba when he was in exile for 14 years. See the magnificent rock temple built at Dambulla when he returned to the throne at Anuradhapura in the 1st century BC.

Admire the mixture of religious and secular paintings and sculptures, including several reclining Buddhas, the 15-meter-long sculpture of the dying Buddha in Cave 1, and the frescoes on the walls and ceiling from the 15th-18th centuries.

Next, heading to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Translated as 'Lion Rock' into English, the name of the monument indicates the way in which visitors used to begin their final ascent to the top – through the open jaws and throat ('giriya') of a lion ('sinha'). Unfortunately, the only remains of this lion figure are the gigantic paws, sculpted into the side of the rock.
The topography of the area is flat except for the massive rock outcrop of the fortress itself (which rises an incredible 600 ft up from the green scrub jungle). The unusual rock is particularly interesting due to its flat top (nearly an acre in size), that was used in its entirety to build King Kasyapa's fortress complex, still evident by the presence of the extensive ruins.

12.30pm Lunch stop in Habarana, (At your own cost)
2pm: Start the Village tour in Sigiriya, You will be taken in a Bullock cart ride, Catamaran Ride in the Lake, arrive at a local mud house and learn the cooking of a local Authentic dish with a local family.
Tuk tuk ride back to your starting point.

By 4pm Leave from Sigiriya and return back to your Hotel
