Just 20 minutes from downtown Montevideo, step into the closest working winery to the city — a family estate with over 100 years of winemaking history, still run today by the third and fourth generations of the Fallabrino family. This is where tradition, cellar craft and Uruguayan terroir meet in a single, unhurried afternoon in Melilla.

Your visit begins with a guided walk through the historic cellars and the on-site museum, where you'll trace how virus-free, carefully selected grape varieties are turned into the wines that Fallabrino has been exporting since 1997 to Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, France and Panama.

You'll then settle in at the tasting room — added in 2018 to welcome travelers — for a mini wine-appreciation course. Across six pours spanning the classic range, premium labels and sparkling wines, your host will show you how to serve each style and how to identify its aromas, textures and finish.

Every glass is paired with a board of regional cheeses and charcuterie chosen to bring out the character of the wines. Ask about the estate's diabetic-certified sugar-free wines, available to sample or purchase on site — a Fallabrino innovation certified by the Uruguayan Diabetes Association.
