Continue your private ride from Phong Nha to Hue by car to Ben Hai River on the 17th parallel. Hien Luong Bridge across the Ben Hai River formed part of the border between North and South Vietnam from 1954 until reunification and was thus a crucial spot in the DMZ of Vietnam.
Today it is maintained as a major national monument for the reunification of Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War. And there’s also a museum, propaganda war remnants, and two memorials.
Visit the Vinh Moc Tunnels. The tunnel complex was built to shelter the people of Son Trung and Son Ha communes in the Vinh Linh districts of Quang Tri Province. It was constructed in several stages, constructed in 1966 and coming into use in 1971. This underground tunnels complex grew to consist of wells, kitchens, rooms for each family, clinics, etc.
