Depart Quito early in the morning and travel south along the Avenue of the Volcanoes to Cotopaxi National Park, one of the most important protected areas in Ecuador. Stop at Limpiopungo Lagoon (3,896 meters above sea level), where you can observe native flora and fauna and enjoy panoramic views of the Cotopaxi Volcano.

Continue to the Mariscal Sucre Interpretation Center to learn about the volcanic activity, the páramo ecosystem, and the origin of local lagoons and water sources. Along the route, pass through rural Andean landscapes and small local communities.
