Discover the story of the Dorado Gaditano in Algaba de Ronda, a unique Andalusian Iberian breed of blond pig, historically listed as extinct. During this guided visit, you'll learn all about the recovery and conservation project that we have been carrying out for more than two decades, and you'll round off the experience with a commented food tasting of products made from the Dorado Gaditano pig.

The activity starts at the Algaba de Ronda farm, located in the heart of the Serranía de Ronda. Upon your arrival, we'll welcome you and introduce you to the tour and the work we do to preserve this valuable livestock heritage.

We'll start by learning about the history of the Dorado Gaditano, its relationship with rural Andalusia, the reasons that led to its disappearance, and the work carried out to locate, conserve, and breed new specimens. You'll find out why preserving this breed is important for livestock diversity and for keeping alive a heritage linked to the history and culture of Andalusia.

Next, accompanied by one of our guides, you'll take an interpretive walk through the Mediterranean woodland on the estate. Among holm oaks, cork oaks, and Portuguese oaks, you'll learn about the relationship between the landscape, the animals, and the traditional ways of using the land.

During the tour, you'll be able to observe the Dorado Gaditano in its environment, learn about its characteristics, and find out about its diet, its behavior, and our extensive and eco-friendly livestock management system. You'll also learn about how we work every day to conserve such a unique breed.

Our guides are part of a new generation connected to the farm and the rural world, so you'll be able to learn about the project from an up-close, authentic perspective that is directly linked to everyday life at Algaba de Ronda.

The experience culminates with a guided food tasting of a selection of Dorado Gaditano products. You'll learn about the origin of each product, the cuts used, the production process, and some of its main gastronomic characteristics. You'll learn to recognize aromas, textures, and flavors while discovering how extensive rearing and the environment influence the final product.

This food tasting represents the link between conservation, traditional livestock farming, and gastronomy, and gives you the chance to discover a very special part of the Serranía de Ronda's heritage.

The activity ends at the farm itself. Throughout the experience, you'll be accompanied by a guide and can ask any questions you have about the animals, the conservation project, and the products.

The tour takes place mainly outdoors and on foot along country lanes. We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes and bringing water and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.
