Begin your day with an early pickup in Bucharest. Drive north through the Prahova Valley and across the Carpathians into Transylvania.
Your first stop is the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești, the largest brown bear refuge in Europe. The bears living here were rescued from small cages, where they had been used for tourist entertainment. Today they live in a vast forest with ponds and open meadows.
On a guided walk, watch them climb, swim, and rest in near-natural conditions, and learn about the sanctuary's conservation work.
Next, take a short drive to Bran Castle, perched on a rocky hill at the historic border between Transylvania and Wallachia. Wander its narrow corridors, towers, and secret staircases. Your guide will explain the castle's real history and how it became linked to Bram Stoker's Dracula. Enjoy free time for lunch and to browse the local market at the foot of the castle.
In the afternoon, head back across the mountains to Sinaia, the "Pearl of the Carpathians," to visit Peleș Castle. Built for King Carol I, it is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Its carved wood interiors, stained glass, and rich art collections show the elegance of the Romanian monarchy.
