Start early and see Hallstatt the way it deserves to be seen: before the coach groups arrive. Your private guide picks you up at 08:00 from your hotel or accommodation in Salzburg and drives you through the Salzkammergut lake district in a private car or minivan, sharing local tips and stories along the way. The tour ends back in Salzburg at about 15:30.

On arrival in Hallstatt, your included round-trip funicular ticket lifts you up the Salzberg in just a few minutes. From the top station, walk to the World Heritage Skywalk, a viewing platform about 360 metres above the village rooftops, and take in the lake, the village and the surrounding Alps. Continue to the Rudolfsturm, the 13th-century tower that once guarded the salt mountain, and enjoy the panorama over the high valley. Your guide explains how salt shaped Hallstatt for thousands of years and gave its name to an entire prehistoric era.

Ride the funicular back down and explore the village at a relaxed pace with your guide's recommendations: Market Square with its pastel townhouses, the lakefront promenade, narrow lanes, the classic postcard viewpoint and the church on the rock above the water. Take time for lunch or a coffee by the lake (not included).

Then drive about 25 minutes to Gosausee, one of the most photogenic lakes in the Salzkammergut. Stroll along the shore and watch the jagged Dachstein massif reflect in the water on calm days before the scenic return drive to Salzburg.

The round-trip funicular ticket, including Skywalk access, is arranged for every confirmed booking. If the funicular or Skywalk unexpectedly cannot operate and the included visit cannot be provided, guests receive a full refund for the affected booking. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a warm layer: it is cooler on the Salzberg and at Gosausee than in the valley.
