Descripción

Embark on a 1-day tour from São Paulo to explore Carlos Botelho State Park. We’ll search for diverse wildlife, enjoy birdwatching, and look for the rare Southern Muriqui in the Atlantic Forest.
We depart early from São Paulo toward Carlos Botelho State Park, located in the town of São Miguel Arcanjo, one of the most well-preserved areas of Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest. The recommended departure time is 6:00 AM, with hotel pickup included from the location provided at the time of booking.

Travel is done in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, in small groups of up to 5 participants, ensuring a more personalized and immersive experience. The drive from São Paulo to the park takes approximately 3 hours.

Upon arrival at the park, we head straight to the forest trails in search of the highlight of our tour: the southern muriqui, the largest primate in the Americas, which can weigh up to 18 kg (40 lbs). This species is rare and endangered, and the largest known population lives in Carlos Botelho State Park, with an estimated 800 individuals.

Our local guide has been working with these primates for over 15 years, and the animals are accustomed to human presence. When we encounter a group, we are often able to observe them for an extended period, watching their natural behaviors such as social interactions, feeding, and moving through the forest canopy. It is truly a unique and unforgettable wildlife experience.

While sightings of the muriqui cannot be guaranteed 100%, the chances are very good and we are often successful in finding them. Along the way, we may also encounter other wildlife, such as howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, many bird species, and other animals typical of the Atlantic Rainforest — one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet.

We spend up to 6 hours in the forest, exploring the trails and observing wildlife before returning to São Paulo.

During the tour, we provide a trail snack for all participants, including vegan and vegetarian options.
