Phnom Penh: Olympic Stadium and Islands Tour

Meet your guide and begin your tour of Phnom Penh. First, visit the National Olympic Stadium on Charles de Gaulle Boulevard, a massive multi-purpose sports complex built in 1963–1964. Designed by famed architect Vann Molyvann, it seats roughly 50,000 to 70,000 people, though it has never hosted an Olympic Games.

Admire a prime example of 1960s "New Khmer" architecture featuring clever natural cooling designs and earthworks. Learn how locals gather in the early mornings and after 5:00 PM for running, football, badminton, pétanque, and mass musical aerobics. See the outdoor arena, indoor stadiums, and a public swimming and diving pool complex.

Next, head to Koh Pich (Diamond Island), a 100-hectare modern satellite city and business district in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Located along the Bassac and Mekong rivers in the Tonle Bassac commune, it features high-rise towers, green parks, and French-inspired architecture.

Continue to Koh Norea, a major $2.5 billion satellite city project located on the Mekong River in Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh. Developed by the OCIC Group, it features the 4.2-kilometer Koh Norea Parkway boardwalk, luxury high-rises like GIA Norea, and a direct bridge connection to Koh Pich.

Finally, visit Silk Island or Koh Dach, a serene island located in the Mekong River, roughly 45 minutes north of central Phnom Penh. It is famous for its traditional Khmer silk weaving, offering a peaceful countryside escape from the city’s bustling core. At the Silk Island Community Centre, watch the complete lifecycle of silk production—from feeding mulberry leaves to silkworms, to spinning thread from cocoons, and watching artisans use traditional wooden hand looms.
