Discover the history of Praia and Cidade Velha on a guided tour. Visit the municipal market, explore the ethnographic museum, and see the ruins of the first cathedral in sub-Saharan Africa.
Begin your tour with a pickup from your hotel in Praia, the airport, or the cruise port. Head to the historic center of Praia and begin your walking tour through the Santa Maria Fort and Jaime Mota Military Barracks, passing by the Presidential Palace and Alexandre Albuquerque Square.
Visit the municipal market of Praia, meet the locals, and find diverse types of local fruits and vegetables. After that, continue to the ethnographic museum and learn about the history and origins of daily life among the Cape Verdean people. Then, explore the largest flee market in Praia, the Sucupira Market.
After visiting the city of Praia, drive for 20 minutes toward the first city built in Cape Verde in the 15th century by the Portuguese. Upon arrival, visit one of the city's six fortifications, built in the 15th century, and the ruins of the first cathedral in sub-Saharan Africa.
Head to the famous Banana Street with its traditional houses, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, and the old slave market of Pelourinho. After the visit, your guide will give you some free time to have a drink at a local restaurant (optional).
Finally, drive back to Praia and the tour concludes with drop-off at your accommodation, airport, or cruise ship.
