Tired of seeing only the most popular landmarks? Join me and discover the real spirit of Old Tbilisi.
In the rush of modern life we often forget that the true beginning of modern Tbilisi was shaped in the 19th century, before the Soviet era transformed the city and its atmosphere.
This was the time when Tbilisi was more than just a city — it was a feeling. Georgians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Persians, Assyrians, and many other communities lived side by side in small neighborhoods, sharing everyday life like one big family.
On this tour, we will step just beyond the typical sights to discover the hidden side of Old Tbilisi — the corners that stand quietly behind the famous landmarks, unnoticed in the shadows of busy streets, and modern bars.
Just one step away from the tourist routes, you can still feel the lives of the people who lived here two centuries ago — people who could never have imagined that their simple wooden balconies, courtyards, and homes would one day become historical treasures admired by visitors from around the world.
This experience is about exploring Tbilisi from a different perspective. Not only the ancient history of the 6th century, but the living spirit of the 19th-century neighborhoods that shaped the modern city.
We will walk through streets and courtyards that have survived time almost untouched, places that still preserve their original appearance, though perhaps not for much longer. You will see houses where people still live their everyday lives — descendants of the very communities that created the unique soul of Tbilisi in the 19th century.
Your journey begins at the historic Metekhi Cathedral (XIII c.) and the old Isani neighborhood, once a royal residence during the Middle Ages. From here, enjoy magnificent panoramic views overlooking the colorful rooftops, winding streets, and famous balconies of Old Tbilisi.
We will take the cable car to the top of the city and enjoy breathtaking views of Tbilisi from the hill where the famous Mother of Georgia monument overlooks the capital.
From there, we will walk down through a quieter and less touristy side of the old city toward the Upper Bethlehem Church of the Nativity of the Saviour. Originally built by the local Armenian community in the early 18th century, this church holds an interesting history that you will discover during the tour.
Hidden above the old streets of Tbilisi, the area offers one of the most peaceful and authentic panoramic views over the city. Unlike the crowded tourist spots, this is a place where you will mostly meet locals, feel the calm atmosphere of everyday life, and experience a more intimate side of Old Tbilisi.
Pause for coffee in a small and stylish boutique café carefully selected for its authentic atmosphere and beautiful design
Along the way, discover places such as Silver street, Ateshgah, Sioni Cathedral (XI c.), Anchiskhati Basilica (VI c.), and the famous Gabriadze Puppet Theater with its iconic clock tower.
