Duración:
2 días
Descripción
Sleep in a herder's working ger, milk camels at dawn, and learn felt-making from a nomadic Mongolian family in the southern Gobi — no tourist camps, no groups.
Most Gobi tours move you between tourist ger camps on a fixed circuit. This experience is different: you stay as a genuine guest of a Mongolian nomadic family who still herds Bactrian camels and goats in the southern Gobi. Your guide, himself raised in a herding household, personally knows the family and bridges the language and cultural gap so every interaction feels real, not staged.
Over two days you take part in the family's actual daily routine. In the morning you help drive the camel herd to water and learn to saddle and lead a Bactrian camel. After lunch the women of the household teach you to card wool and press it into felt — a skill passed down over centuries. In the evening the family shares a home-cooked tsuivan noodle meal around the stove while your guide translates stories about Gobi life, seasonal migration routes, and the pressures facing nomadic culture today.
You sleep on a traditional sleeping platform inside the family's own ger, covered with hand-stitched blankets. There is no electricity or running water — only a solar lantern and a wood stove. This is the honest version of Gobi life, and the family earns directly from your stay. The drive from Ulaanbaatar takes roughly eight hours; your guide travels with you the entire way, turning the road journey itself into a moving lesson in Mongolian geography and ecology.
