Pick up From Christchurch: Kaikoura Whale Watching Cruise

Meet the giant sperm whales of Kaikoura on a small-group day from Christchurch. A scenic coastal drive north, a purpose-built catamaran cruise, dusky dolphins and fur seals, then lunch by the sea.
Your day begins with a hotel pickup in Christchurch and a scenic drive north along the coast to Kaikoura, where the mountains meet the sea. The deep Kaikoura Canyon, just offshore, draws an extraordinary concentration of marine life close to land. It is one of the few places on earth where you can meet giant sperm whales all year round.

At Kaikoura you board a purpose-built catamaran for the whale watch cruise. With onboard hydrophones and an experienced crew, you go in search of the resident sperm whales, which can measure up to 15 metres. Along the way you are likely to meet pods of playful dusky dolphins, New Zealand fur seals, and a rich variety of seabirds including the wandering albatross. Depending on the season you may also see humpback whales, orca, blue whales and migrating southern right whales.

Back on shore there is time for a relaxed lunch by the sea and a wander through this welcoming coastal town before the drive home. Your small group of no more than eight travels with a local driver-guide who knows the coast, its wildlife and its stories, so the day moves at an easy pace with plenty of room for questions.

This is a full day in the company of some of the largest animals on the planet, in one of New Zealand's most beautiful corners.
