Descripción

Explore the Amazon by boat and jungle trails, visit Sandoval Lake and Chuncho Clay Lick, and search for wildlife by day and night with your local guide.
Spend 4 days exploring the Amazon rainforest around Puerto Maldonado through river journeys, guided walks and memorable wildlife experiences.

Your adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, where you will be picked up at the airport or bus station and taken to the Monte Amazónico office for registration. If you have large luggage, we recommend bringing only what you need for your stay in the rainforest. From the city, travel by road for approximately 2 hours before boarding a boat on the Tambopata River. As the urban landscape gives way to dense rainforest, the journey itself becomes part of the adventure.

Arrive at Hacienda Tambopata Lodge, receive a warm welcome, settle into your room and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, follow your guide on an introductory rainforest walk. Learn about the forest ecosystem while looking for birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles and mammals in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for dinner and your first night surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Day two begins at approximately 4:30 a.m. with a boat journey to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. During the 1.5-hour ride, your guide will help you look for wildlife along the riverbanks. At the clay lick, settle into the observation area and wait for parrots and macaws to arrive. When conditions are right, large groups of colorful birds gather at the clay wall, creating an impressive natural spectacle.

After breakfast, return by boat toward Puerto Maldonado and continue along the Madre de Dios River to Monte Amazónico Lodge, near Sandoval Lake. After lunch, cross the river to Monkey Island and explore with your guide while learning about the monkeys that inhabit the area. After sunset, take a boat excursion to search for caimans along the riverbanks and sandbars. With a flashlight, you may also spot capybaras and other nocturnal wildlife.

On day three, walk approximately 3 kilometers through the rainforest toward Sandoval Lake. Explore the lake by rowing boat while your guide helps you identify birds, monkeys and other species around the water. Depending on wildlife activity, you may encounter hoatzins, herons, cormorants, monkeys, sloths, caimans and possibly giant river otters. After lunch, return to the forest after dark for a guided nocturnal walk in search of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other creatures that become active at night.

Your final morning begins at approximately 5:30 a.m. with a visit to the Canopy Walkway. From platforms around 30 meters above the ground, enjoy views of the rainforest and Madre de Dios River while looking for birds in the treetops. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Puerto Maldonado, where you will be transferred to the airport or bus station according to your departure schedule.
