Leave Edinburgh behind and meet your local Scottish guide and fellow travellers before setting off on an unforgettable day exploring Scotland's castles, Highland landscapes and famous Highland cows. Grab a coffee, settle into the bus and watch the city skyline give way to rolling countryside as you cross the iconic Forth Bridges.
Your first stop is in the historic town of Linlithgow or Stirling, where you'll have time to grab a coffee before visiting one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks. Depending on the day, you'll explore either the magnificent Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, or the mighty Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most important royal fortresses. Your local guide will bring centuries of Scottish history to life with fascinating stories along the way.
Next, head into the Highlands to Kilmahog, where you'll meet Scotland's beloved Highland cows. Get up close to these friendly, hairy giants, snap the perfect photo and even feed them if you wish (£1 for feed).
Continue deeper into Highland Perthshire to the atmospheric ruins of Finlarig Castle. Set beside Loch Tay, this hidden gem is packed with history and surrounded by spectacular scenery, making it one of Scotland's most underrated castle ruins.
From here, travel to the stunning shores of Loch Tay, where you can choose how to spend your afternoon. Visit the Scottish Crannog Centre (£16 entry), an immersive Iron Age village where you'll discover how people lived over 2,500 years ago through authentic reconstructed crannogs and interactive exhibits. Alternatively, enjoy free time in the picturesque village of Kenmore, where you can relax by the loch, take a scenic walk or even enjoy a refreshing swim in one of Scotland's most beautiful locations.
Throughout the day, you'll travel through breathtaking Highland scenery, hear stories from your local Scottish guide and discover places that many visitors never get to experience.
Return to Edinburgh in the evening with incredible photos, unforgettable memories and a true taste of Scotland's castles, countryside and Highland charm—all in just one day.

MacBackpackers tours are primarily designed for travellers aged 18–35, and the style, pace, accommodation, and social nature of our tours reflect this demographic.
We do, however, make exceptions for passengers who identify with our company ethos. Our tours are active, hostel-based, and highly social, and are best suited to passengers who are comfortable sharing dorm-style accommodation, participating in outdoor activities, and travelling as part of a group of like-minded travellers.

Please meet at Castle Rock Hostel in Edinburgh at least 30 minutes before departure in order to sign in for the tour and pay any outstanding balances for accommodation or merchandise. Tours leave at 8.45am.
It is up to the guest to arrive at the departure point on time and due to lack of sunlight in winter we cannot wait for late guests.
