Day 1: Arrival in Colombo – Gateway to the Legend
Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel in Negombo or Colombo. After check-in and rest, enjoy a relaxed evening by the beach or a short city tour of Colombo, where cultures and legends converge. Overnight stay in Colombo/Negombo.
Day 2: Colombo to Chilaw – Munneswaram and Manavari Temples
Start your spiritual journey with a visit to the Munneswaram Temple, where Lord Rama is believed to have worshipped Shiva after defeating Ravana. Then proceed to Manavari Temple, the first place where Lord Rama installed a Shiva lingam. This lingam is known as the Ramalinga Shivan. Overnight stay in Chilaw or return to Negombo.
Day 3: Negombo to Trincomalee – The Sacred Koneswaram Temple
Travel north-east to Trincomalee, a historic port city. Visit the Koneswaram Temple, perched dramatically on Swami Rock, said to be one of the places where Ravana prayed to Lord Shiva. Explore the Lover’s Leap cliff and enjoy serene views of the Indian Ocean. Overnight stay in Trincomalee.
Day 4: Trincomalee to Dambulla/Sigiriya – Caves and Countryside
After breakfast, head toward the central region of Sri Lanka. En route, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient murals and statues. Relax in the cultural triangle with optional visits to Sigiriya Rock Fortress or a village tour. Overnight stay in Dambulla or Sigiriya.
Day 5: Ramayana Trail in Kandy – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
Proceed to Kandy, the cultural capital. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, believed to house the relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth. In the afternoon, explore Sita Kotuwa near Hasalaka – believed to be where Sita was held captive before being moved to Ashok Vatika. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 6: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya – The Ashok Vatika and Sita Amman Temple
Travel through scenic tea country to Nuwara Eliya, often called "Little England." Visit the Sita Amman Temple, located near Ashok Vatika, where Sita was kept under watch by Ravana. Explore Hakgala Botanical Garden, also linked to the legend. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 7: Nuwara Eliya to Ella – Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave
Journey to Ella, a charming hill town steeped in mythology. Stop at Ravana Falls, a breathtaking cascade where Ravana is believed to have hidden Sita in the nearby Ravana Cave. Explore the picturesque landscape and relax in the cool mountain air. Overnight stay in Ella.
Day 8: Ella to Colombo – Farewell to the Island of Legends
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Colombo. Depending on your flight time, you can enjoy a short stop in Ratnapura, known for the Divurumpola Temple, where Sita is believed to have undergone the fire test to prove her purity. Arrive at Colombo Airport for your departure, filled with memories of a sacred and soulful journey.
