Begin with a quick introduction to the basic principles of scuba diving, including how to equalize your ears, hand signals for underwater communication, and how the equipment (BCD, regulator, mask) works.
Next, head to a swimming pool or a shallow, calm beach area to practice a few basic safety skills, such as breathing underwater and regulator recovery, clearing water out of your mask, and using your BCD to float at the surface.
Finally, under the direct supervision of an instructor, head out to a reef for one or two dives. You are limited to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet).
