Kidepo Valley National Park 5-Day Safari Tour

Embark on a 5-day safari to Kidepo Valley National Park from Kampala. Enjoy wildlife viewing, cultural encounters with the Karamojong and Ik communities, and a visit to the Kanangorok Hot Springs.
Day 1: Journey to the Wild North
Depart early from Kampala or Entebbe for the long but scenic drive north. The route takes you through the Luwero Triangle and Gulu. Stop for lunch in Gulu before proceeding to Kitgum for an overnight stay. This staged approach helps manage the 10–12 hour total travel time to the park.

Day 2: Arrival and Sunset in Narus Valley
Continue the drive to Kidepo Valley National Park, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. In the late afternoon, head out for your first game drive in the Narus Valley. This area is the park's heartbeat, as the permanent water sources attract high concentrations of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and zebras. Keep an eye out for lions and the elusive cheetah, which is unique to this region in Uganda.

Day 3: Cultural Immersion with the Karamojong
After a morning game drive to catch the early predators, spend the afternoon visiting a Karamojong Manyatta (village). This is an authentic opportunity to learn about their pastoralist lifestyle, traditional architecture, and vibrant dances. Observe their unique crafts, including intricate beadwork and hand-carved stools, and gain insight into a culture that has remained steadfastly traditional.

Day 4: The Ik People and Kanangorok Hot Springs
Dedicate the morning to a visit with the Ik people, one of the most isolated ethnic groups in Africa. This requires a hike up Mount Morungole, offering spectacular views of the Eastern Rift Valley. The Ik are peaceful hunter-gatherers with a rich, distinct heritage. In the afternoon, drive toward the South Sudan border to visit the Kanangorok Hot Springs, a scenic spot framed by jagged mountains.

Day 5: Final Game Drive and Return
Enjoy a sunrise game drive for a final look at the park’s diverse birdlife—including the giant Ostrich and Abyssinian Ground Hornbill—before beginning the journey back. Many itineraries include a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on the way back to Kampala to complete the "Big Five" experience.
