Discover the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain on a full-day tour from Cusco. Hike to this spectacular area of natural beauty, and take the opportunity to learn more about local culture.
Start with pickup from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM. Travel south of the city through the beautiful landscape of valleys and small agricultural villages. Stop for breakfast outside of the town of Cusipata.
After breakfast, continue the journey between the mountains, accompanied by the first views of Ausangate, one of the highest mountain peaks of the region. Pass by herds of hundreds of alpacas and llamas as you make your way to the starting point of the hike.
Begin the hike at Phuluwasipata, and after about 2 hours, reach the highest point of the hike at 5,020 meters above sea level. Admire the outstanding views in all directions and the rare geological formations of Rainbow Mountain, known locally as Vinicuna. Discover the vibrant colors of the mountain, and enjoy about 40 minutes to relax and take in the natural beauty of the surrounding region.
Then, begin the descent towards Phuluwasipata. Travel back to Cusipata for some lunch. After lunch, visit some local households and learn more about traditional customs which have been practiced since Incan times. Enjoy an opportunity to meet the locals and hear the native language of Quechua, before returning to Cusco, where you will arrive between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
