Venturing Humantay Lake is a stunning turquoise lake nestled at the base of the snow-capped Humantay Mountain. Salkantay Pass, the highest point of the Salkantay Trek at 4,650 meters (15,255 feet),
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake
We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 4:30 a.m. and drive for about 2.5 hours to Mollepata, where we’ll stop for breakfast. Afterward, we continue on to Challacancha, where the hike begins. Once we arrive, the cook and horseman will load the camping and cooking gear onto the horses, and we’ll set off on foot. The first 25 minutes of the trail will be an uphill climb to reach the Water Channel, offering stunning panoramic views of the majestic snow-capped mountains (Humantay at 4120m/13,500ft and Salkantay at 6271m/20,575ft). This is just the beginning of our journey! We’ll continue on the Salkantay Trek towards Soraypampa, our first campsite (3800m/11,750ft), which is the highest and coldest of the entire trek, located near one of the highest snow-capped peaks of Cusco. After lunch, we’ll head to Humantay Lake to explore the area before descending back to Soraypampa for our best campsite of the day.
Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Trek Pass – Salkantay Lake – Soraypampa – Cusco
After breakfast, we begin our hike at around 6:30 a.m. for a challenging 4-hour uphill climb to reach the highest point of the Salkantay Trek at 4650m (15,200ft). This pass sits between two massive mountains: Salkantay on the right and Tucarhuay on the left. From the pass, the views of the snow-covered peaks are breathtaking, and there’s a chance of snow at this altitude. After taking a rest and capturing a group photo, we retrace our steps back down to Soraypampa, where we’ll enjoy lunch and some relaxation time. Then, we’ll board the bus back to Cusco.
