From Kandy: Pekoe Trail Stage 3 Guided Hike

Embark on a guided hike along the Pekoe Trail Stage 3 from Loolkandura to Tawalantenne. Trek through historic tea trails, enjoy panoramic views, and learn about the history of Ceylon tea.
Begin your adventure by meeting your guide at the small bridge over the Ma Oya on the historic Loolkandura Estate, the birthplace of Ceylon tea. After a quick safety briefing and gear check, set off on your trek.

Start with a gentle but steady ascent on scenic estate tracks through the tea plantation. Learn about the estate’s history and tea production from your guide. Ascend through some of Sri Lanka’s oldest, historically significant tea trails. Take an optional short detour to rock pools by the river for photos or a fresh dip.

Enter a section of the old Dimbula Road, a 19th-century colonial route once used by bullock carts. Cross Stellenberg Pass, enjoying sweeping views of the Kotmale Valley and the Rilagala mountain range.

Follow relatively flat estate roads across Stellenberg, passing villages and tea fields. Enjoy a packed lunch with panoramic views, perfect for photos. Begin the downhill stretch through tea fields and forest edges, with views of Ramboda Pass and waterfalls. Stop for short breaks and hydration as needed.

Conclude the hike where the trail meets the main road near Glenoch Tea Factory. Take an optional 2-kilometer walk to Tawalantenne village central if you want to explore local food, shops, or transport connections.
