Hosted at Konya, a 300-year-old natural indigo dye studio near the Katsura River, this immersive workshop invites you to connect with one of Japan’s oldest artisan traditions—aizome.
Konya uses natural fermented indigo (sukumo), a rare and deeply symbolic dyeing method. This is not a tourist show, but a true collaboration with Kyoto’s last remaining indigo dyeing family—now opening their studio to international travelers for the first time through a trusted local connection.
Under the guidance of experienced artisans and a bilingual host, you’ll dye your own textile using time-honored techniques and take home a piece of Kyoto’s living tradition.

Located in the quiet western Kyoto district of Katsura, once a hub of textile workshops, Konya has been practicing natural indigo dyeing for over 300 years.
This studio preserves the rare art of fermented indigo dyeing in an environment filled with the scent of indigo and centuries of craftsmanship.
